NAGPRA Project Staff

NAGPRA implementation is an administrative function of the university. The NAGPRA Project reports to the Vice Chancellor, Resource Management and Planning (see organizational chart).

Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth H. Simmons serves as the Chancellor’s designee for campus oversight of the NAGPRA Program in compliance with the UC Policy on Native American Cultural Affiliation and Repatriation.

Eva Trujillo, NAGPRA Repatriation Coordinator

Eva Trujillo serves as the Repatriation Coordinator in accordance with NAGPRA/CalNAGPRA and the University of California’s Native American Cultural Affiliation and Repatriation Policy. In this role, Eva oversees all ongoing NAGPRA compliance and repatriation activities, committed to meaningful consultation with Native American Tribes and Native Hawaiian Organizations. With her combined institutional and tribal NAGPRA experience, Eva brings a solid foundation for equitable and collaborative repatriation outcomes.

Dawn Rewolinski, Repatriation Project Policy Analyst

Dawn Rewolinski is the Repatriation Project Policy Analyst at UC San Diego. She holds a bachelor’s degree in science and a master’s degree in museum studies from New York University, with a specialized focus on the implementation of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). With more than a decade of experience across tribal, academic and museum institutions, Dawn has dedicated her career to the respectful repatriation of Native American ancestors and cultural items. Her work is grounded in a commitment to upholding both federal and state law, while advancing efforts to support healing, reconciliation and a future centered on collaboration and leadership by Native communities.
